Congratulations to Dr. Alison Dunn for her induction as a 2024 Rising Star by the Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine of Florida. She was nominated for her pioneering research using soft, hydrated materials, such as hydrogels and silicone, to understand their properties and applications.
Dr. Dunn traveled to Orlando to receive the award, where she enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere of the ASEM Annual Meeting. She explained that she felt celebrated, alongside the other 20 inductees, as the event focused on top contributors to science, engineering, and medicine throughout the state of Florida. Dr. Dunn also highlighted the meaningful connections she made, including with Christine Schmidt from UF’s Department of Biomedical Engineering and a mechanics professor from UCF, who was recently elected to the National Academy of Medicine.
“The meeting offers exciting prospects,” Dr. Dunn noted, “especially for showcasing research at the intersection of engineering and biomedical engineering/medicine.”
