The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering honors the memory of Dr. Chen-Chi Hsu, Professor Emeritus, who passed away on March 22, 2025, at the age of 89. A dedicated educator, researcher, and mentor, Dr. Hsu served on the MAE faculty for nearly three decades and continued to support the department long after his retirement.
Dr. Hsu joined the University of Florida in 1978 and played a key role in advancing the department’s expertise in computational fluid dynamics, engineering mechanics, and applied mathematics. Known for his thoughtful and rigorous approach to research, he brought clarity and precision to complex problems and inspired the same in his students.
Over the course of his UF career, Dr. Hsu helped train generations of engineers through both his classroom teaching and his contributions to graduate research. He was respected not only for his technical knowledge but also for his calm demeanor, generous spirit, and unwavering commitment to academic excellence.
Even after his retirement in 2006, Dr. Hsu remained connected to the department as Professor Emeritus, maintaining a keen interest in the ongoing growth and innovation of MAE. His legacy lives on in the students he mentored, the colleagues he supported, and the research he helped shape.
