MAE Students Represent at HiPerGator Dedication

The University of Florida celebrated the launch of the next generation of its HiPerGator supercomputer this week, marking another major milestone in UF’s artificial intelligence initiative—and MAE students were front and center.

Out of only four student groups attending campus-wide, two were from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering: Swamp Launch and Gator Motorsports, led by Professor Sean Niemi. They were joined by the UF Steel Bridge Team and UF iGEM, led by MAE Professor Jing Pan, who also demonstrated their innovative projects.

Speakers and guests from UF leadership, NVIDIA, and U.S. Rep. Kat Cammack saw firsthand the energy and creativity driving UF’s student innovators. Warren Dixon, interim dean of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering, also spent time speaking with students about their work and how the HiPerGator system supports their research.

From rockets to race cars to engineering challenges and synthetic biology, MAE students continue to push boundaries and showcase the department’s role in making UF a national leader in innovation.
