Biography

Dr. Austin Moss is an Instructional Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Florida, where he teaches courses in mechanical design, analysis, and realization. He earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Florida in 2016, and his M.S. (2019) and Ph.D. (2024) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida, where his research applied nonlinear continuum mechanics to the design and modeling of fiber-reinforced soft robotic actuators. He joined UF as an adjunct lecturer in 2024 before stepping into his current role in Fall 2026. In his teaching, Dr. Moss is especially interested in closing the gap between theory and practice, giving students hands-on ways to build intuition and immediate feedback as they develop engineering judgment.
