Biography
Christi Swiers is a proud Alachua County native who brings creativity, energy, and a love of authentic storytelling to her role leading marketing and communications at MAE (MAE MarCom). She’s dedicated to sharing the incredible work of MAE’s faculty, staff, students and alumni with the world—whether through striking print publications, engaging digital content, or eye-catching visuals for events. Christi is passionate about making MAE’s innovations shine and takes joy in highlighting the people and ideas that make the department extraordinary.
Outside of her professional pursuits, as a true maker at heart, she enjoys crafting, writing, riding rollercoasters, playing TTRPGs, and playing video games. She lives in Gainesville with her husband, their daughter, and two beloved cats.
Responsibilities
As the Marketing and Communications Specialist for the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, she leads the department’s strategic communications and marketing efforts—highlighting the groundbreaking work of students, faculty, and alumni through engaging storytelling and impactful design.
• Overseeing the department’s marketing and communications team to ensure alignment, consistency, and impact across all platforms.
• Managing and regularly updating the MAE website with timely news, research features, events, and resources that reflect the department’s excellence.
• Designing department webpages to enhance user experience and incorporate compelling, visually engaging design elements.
• Creating and managing social media content that promotes people, projects, partnerships, and events.
• Serving as a creative consultant for faculty and staff, offering guidance on presentations, branding, messaging, and visual materials.
• Directing writing and editing of feature stories, announcements, and internal communications that showcase accomplishments and build community.
• Designing digital and print materials such as newsletters, flyers, signage, event collateral, and graphics for print, web, and social platforms.
• Leading the design, layout, and editing of MAEmomentum, the department’s annual magazine.
• Assisting with the planning and promotion of the department’s annual awards celebration, including event communications and media production.
• Developing and executing strategic marketing campaigns to enhance visibility, support recruitment, and promote key initiatives.
• Supporting communications for departmental events through promotional materials, branded signage, and post-event coverage.
• Ensuring brand consistency and editorial quality across all departmental communications, in line with UF and HWCOE guidelines.
• Web and social media analytics
• Collaborating with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and campus partners to share MAE’s story with local, national, and global audiences.
