Biography

Gerald (Jerry) Feller is a Principal Key Expert at Siemens Energy focusing on energy conversion technologies. Jerry has been at Siemens Energy for 24 years and been active in the R/D and Innovation community for that entire duration. Prior to joining Siemens-Energy in 1999, Jerry’s work experience includes research at Pratt & Whitney on advanced upper-stage rocket engines and analysis at Southern Nuclear (Part of Southern Company) regarding core physics of operating nuclear power plants.

Throughout his career at Siemens Energy, Jerry has focused his technical leadership on developing technologies for combined cycle plants, concentrated solar power, coal gasification, energy storage, waste heat recovery, and most recently energy conversion systems for nuclear energy. For part of his time at Siemens Energy, Jerry lived in Berlin as a deputy director of the HL class gas turbine development program and was instrumental in the programs launch. This program developed one of the most energy efficient gas turbine based combined cycle power plants in the world.

Jerry’s educational background comprises a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Florida, an M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. from the University of Florida. Jerry’s doctoral dissertation focused on development of a nuclear thermal propulsion system for Mars space exploration under a NASA funded project with Pratt & Whitney. While pursuing his Ph.D., Jerry was a Department of Energy Fellow and a National Science Foundation Fellow. He was also the outstanding 2-year scholar in the University of Florida graduating class of the summer of 1989.
