Degree Requirements at a Glance
- Minimum of 90 credit hours,
- Combination of graded coursework and guided research
- Complete courses in core subjects
- Fulfill foundational “Basic Skills” coursework
- Complete the graduate seminar course
- Conduct cutting-edge research
- Prepare a dissertation under the direction of your supervisory committee and faculty advisor
- Examinations:
- Pass the candidacy examination
- Complete the final exam by defending your written dissertation
- Develop and implement an Individual Development Plan annually to support your goals, learning, and professional development.

Master of Science
Our Master of Science program prepares you to enter cutting-edge fields such as robotics, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, autonomous systems, advanced manufacturing, and more. Our program is flexible, offering thesis and non-thesis options. Students may take their classes online, on-campus, full-time, or part time.

Degree Requirements at a Glance
- General Requirements
- Minimum of 30 credit hours
- Take courses in core subjects designated by the program
- Elective options in fields such as Math, Physics, or Statistics, and other Engineering disciplines
- Pass a cumulative final exam
- Non-Thesis Option
- Pass the final exam in your graduating semester
- No research requirement
- No written thesis or similar project required
- Thesis Option
- Enroll in up to 6 credits of Master’s Thesis Research
- Conduct research under the supervision and direction of your faculty advisor
- Complete the final exam by defending your written thesis project

UF MAE Graduate Certificates are credential-granting non-degree programs, designed by our world-class faculty. Our certificates are each narrowly focused on a specific field of study. Each certificate requires three courses which may be completed in as little as one semester, on-campus or online. Plus, if you decide to pursue a Master’s or PhD later, your certificate courses can count toward your degree!
