About

The mission of NSBE is “to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.”

Since 1976, the NSBE Gator Chapter has been supporting minority students in STEM and bringing the community together. Family is at the core of our identity and anyone is welcome to join! All of our programs are centered around our mission statement and designed to foster a family bond between our members. We encourage our members to excel academically by offering a resource library of study materials, hosting regular study nights, and bringing awareness to on-campus resources through our events.

As the 2019 recipient of the SAI Best Professional Development Student Organization, our chapter provides many professional development opportunities for our members. One of our staple programs, Gators Connecting with Corporate, is a minority-focused career fair in which our members can connect with a diverse selection of companies prior to Career Showcase in a more intimate setting. We also host many workshops, info sessions, and have company presentations at our general body meetings.

Most importantly, our chapter generously gives back to the Gainesville community. Each semester, we host A Walk for Education, in which we donate school supplies to the Gainesville youth and engage in STEM activities. We offer many community service opportunites through our Pre-College Initiative program and partnership with the Reichert House tutoring center.

You do not have to be black or an engineer to join our family! There are no fees to become a member of our chapter, all you have to do is come one of our general body meetings, every other Wednesday at 6:15 PM, and bring a friend! We look forward to seeing you there!
